epipa yarns
With my work as a hand dyer and author, I want to support farmers and archefarmers in caring for and preserving old sheep breeds that are threatened with extinction. These traditional breeds, adapted to the local weather conditions, provide yarn and wool qualities for a wide variety of purposes.
I obtain my raw yarns from responsibly producing, certified companies and manufacturers in Germany.
I use it to dye yarns for knitting, crocheting and weaving.

COLOURS
For my dyeing I use plants, parts of plants and color pigments, certified according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100.

DYEING PROCESS
I gently dissolve plant color pigments in a water bath for hours, depending on the plant sometimes for days. This is a very time-consuming process that cannot be accelerated or influenced.
Once the color pigments have been released, the actual dyeing part begins. The prepared strands are soaked in the dye bath, where they will absorb the color and lock it into the fiber. This process can at least last for hours to several days.
Once enough color pigments have been absorbed, the strands are gently washed again by hand to rinse out excess color pigments.
If there are still enough color pigments in the dye bath, I´ll use it again.
